1. About these terms

These Terms of Service apply when you use our website, place an order, approve a design proof or buy products from The Sign Dept.

By using our website or placing an order, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our website or place an order.

In these terms, “we”, “us” and “our” means The Sign Dept. “You” and “your” means the customer or website user.

The Sign Dept. is currently operated as a small online business. We do not currently offer walk-in visits or public collections unless agreed in writing.

2. Our products

We sell made-to-order signage products, including magnetic van signs and any other custom signage products listed on our website.

Our products are generally designed for self-fitting by the customer unless we clearly agree otherwise in writing.

Product descriptions, images, mock-ups and measurements are provided to help you understand the product, but the final product may vary slightly due to materials, print processes, cutting tolerances, screen colour differences and vehicle panel variations.

3. Orders

When you place an order, you are making an offer to buy the products in your basket. We may accept or reject an order for reasons including payment issues, stock or production limitations, suspected fraud, incorrect pricing, unavailable vehicle templates or an issue with the information supplied.

An order is only accepted when we confirm it or begin processing it.

4. Customer information

You are responsible for giving accurate information when placing an order. This includes your name, delivery address, contact details, vehicle make, model, year, wheelbase, panel choice, wording, logo, colours and any design instructions.

We are not responsible for problems caused by incorrect, incomplete or unclear information supplied by you.

5. Vehicle details and fit

If your order is based on vehicle details, you must make sure the vehicle information you provide is correct. Vehicle shapes can vary depending on make, model, year, wheelbase, trim, body style, door style, modifications and panel layout.

If you are unsure, contact us before ordering. We may ask for photos, measurements or extra information before preparing your design.

We do our best to prepare signs based on the information available, but we cannot guarantee fit where the customer has supplied incorrect or incomplete vehicle details, or where the vehicle differs from standard factory specification.

6. Design proofs

For custom orders, we may send you a design proof before production. The proof is your opportunity to check the design before it is made.

You must check all details carefully, including spelling, phone numbers, website addresses, logos, colours, layout, vehicle details, panel choice and overall appearance.

Once you approve a proof, you confirm that the design is ready for production. We are not responsible for mistakes that were visible on the approved proof, unless the final product is materially different from the approved proof.

7. Artwork, logos and permissions

You confirm that you own, control or have permission to use any logo, image, trademark, wording, design, photograph or other material you provide to us.

You agree that your supplied content does not infringe the rights of any third party and is not unlawful, offensive, misleading or harmful.

We may refuse to print or produce material that we reasonably believe is unlawful, offensive, misleading, infringing or unsuitable.

8. Ownership of designs

Any original layouts, design proofs, artwork, mock-ups, templates or visual materials created by us remain our intellectual property unless we agree otherwise in writing.

When you buy a product, you are buying the finished product, not the copyright or ownership of our editable design files, templates or working files.

You are granted a licence to use the final design for the purpose it was supplied, such as displaying it on your vehicle or business signage.

9. Use of designs in marketing

We may use photographs, mock-ups or images of completed work for our portfolio, website, social media, advertising or marketing, unless you ask us not to before production or unless we have agreed otherwise in writing.

We will not sell your design to another business as their own branding. We will also avoid displaying personal contact information in a way that is unreasonable or unnecessary.

10. Prices and payment

Prices are shown on our website in pounds sterling. We are not currently VAT registered, so VAT is not charged separately on orders.

Delivery costs and any other charges will be shown where applicable before checkout.

Payment must be made at the time of ordering unless we agree otherwise in writing.

We may change prices at any time, but this will not affect orders we have already accepted unless there has been an obvious pricing error.

11. Production times

Production times are estimates and may vary depending on proof approval, order complexity, supplier capacity, courier delays, stock availability and other factors outside our control.

If a design proof is required, production time usually starts after you approve the proof, not when the order is first placed.

12. Delivery

Delivery times are estimates only. We are not responsible for delays caused by couriers, incorrect delivery information, missed deliveries, weather, strikes, stock issues or events outside our reasonable control.

Risk in the product passes to you when the product is delivered to the delivery address you provided.

13. DIY fitting and application

Unless clearly stated otherwise, our signs are supplied for customer fitting.

You are responsible for making sure the product is suitable for your vehicle, surface and intended use. You must read and follow any fitting, care and safety instructions provided.

Incorrect fitting, poor surface preparation or unsuitable surfaces may affect appearance, adhesion, magnetic hold, durability and safety.

14. Magnetic sign surface suitability

Magnetic signs must be applied only to a suitable, clean, dry, smooth, flat steel surface.

Magnetic signs may not hold correctly on aluminium, plastic, fibreglass, filler, wrapped panels, matte finishes, heavily curved panels, textured paint, damaged paint, weak paint, rust, resprayed paint or non-standard vehicle surfaces.

You must test the signs carefully before driving and make sure they are securely fitted. Do not use magnetic signs if they do not sit flat or hold securely.

15. Care and maintenance

You must maintain magnetic signs properly. This includes keeping the vehicle surface and the back of the magnet clean and dry, removing trapped dirt or moisture, storing the signs flat, and removing them before washing the vehicle or using automatic car washes.

We recommend removing and cleaning magnetic signs regularly. Leaving magnets on a vehicle for long periods without cleaning may increase the risk of dirt build-up, marking, moisture trapping or paint issues.

16. Surface damage disclaimer

We are not responsible for damage to paintwork, bodywork, wraps, coatings, finishes or other surfaces caused by unsuitable surfaces, weak paint, resprayed panels, trapped dirt, trapped moisture, incorrect fitting, incorrect removal, poor maintenance, storage, weather, road debris, cleaning products, pressure washing, car washes or misuse.

This does not affect your statutory rights if the product itself is faulty.

17. Road use and safety

You are responsible for using the product safely. You must not use a sign if it is damaged, creased, dirty, incorrectly positioned, not sitting flat or not holding securely.

We are not responsible for loss, damage, accidents or costs caused by a sign being used on an unsuitable surface, fitted incorrectly, poorly maintained or used against our guidance.

18. Faults, refunds and replacements

Please read our Refund Policy for details of cancellations, damaged orders, faulty products, returns and refunds.

Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights. Goods must be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose where applicable.

19. Warranties

Unless stated otherwise, any warranty we provide covers manufacturing defects only.

A warranty does not cover damage caused by incorrect fitting, poor maintenance, unsuitable surfaces, incorrect storage, misuse, accidents, weather, road conditions, cleaning chemicals, pressure washing, car washes, normal wear and tear or changes to the vehicle surface.

20. Website use

You must not use our website for unlawful purposes, interfere with the website, attempt to access systems without permission, upload malicious code, copy content without permission, or use our website in a way that harms our business or other users.

21. Accuracy of website information

We try to keep our website accurate and up to date, but we do not guarantee that all information will always be complete, current or error-free. We may correct errors, update information or change product details at any time.

22. Limitation of liability

We do not exclude or limit liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, fraudulent misrepresentation, or your statutory rights as a consumer.

Subject to the above, we are not responsible for indirect losses, loss of profit, loss of business, loss of opportunity, loss of goodwill, or losses caused by misuse, incorrect fitting, unsuitable surfaces, customer-supplied errors or events outside our reasonable control.

23. Events outside our control

We are not responsible for delays or failure to perform caused by events outside our reasonable control, including courier delays, supplier delays, strikes, extreme weather, accidents, technical issues, shortages, illness, fire, flood, power failure or other unexpected events.

24. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your order will usually be the version available on our website when your order is placed.

25. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer, you may also have rights under the laws of the country where you live.
